Personal Entry #1: "Knowing Nothing IS Better Than Knowing At All"

"Knowing nothing is better than knowing at all."
-Robert Edward McCracken

Throughout my entire life, I have been the best I can to anyone I knew or came across; always kindhearted to anyone I spoke to.  I've seen, heard, and dealt with problems, like most people do, but each and every one of those experiences changed me dramatically, because of the affect emotions have on me. I stand tall behind the quote, "Knowing nothing is better than knowing at all."  My reason for this, is because the things that I have endured all my life, allowed me to not only become a good person, but has caused me to become more of an introvert, so to speak. The quote, coming from my all-time favorite band The Used, seems to take the place of a cliché little quote that anyone can say means a lot to them.  However, this quote particularly stands bold out of all the rest, leaving me to constantly almost use it as an excuse for my feelings.  Robert Edward McCracken comes up with some of the most heartfelt meaningful words, that I have heard from anyone and the amount of respect I have for him is uncomprehending.  In other words, the quote can be understand to mean that when a person knows nothing, it is more likely they will feel comfortable, than having the stress of knowing something at all.  For example, a child can be seen as vulnerable until being exposed to the horrors of the world and the things that have occurred.  In some sense, being vulnerable is a good thing, in that they know nothing, and can feel passionate about everything they do, without worrying what it is that other people think.  Once the child sees what the world really is, and how clueless everyone is, they lose all sense of security they gained from parents and guardians.  These reasons just go to show why it is that I feel the quote is so powerful.  I chose this quote to explain my life simply because it pertains to me as well as many others in a variety of different ways.  As I grow older, I learn things that made me feel uncomfortable, ashamed, and sometimes even worried about my own life.  We, as humans, are all exposed to so much terror and lies, that knowing nothing would absolutely be better than knowing at all.  Some may take this as an action of a bystander, but that is not the case.  If you see something, you should definitely do the best you can to help the situation out.  It's just clear that growing up sheltered could benefit to people majorly, but it is impossible to ever get through life like that.  As a final statement, I'd like to comply with my all-time favorite lyricist Bert McCracken, when he says that "Knowing nothing is better than knowing at all," because it holds very true to me.

Here's the video to the studio version of the song "On My Own."  The quote "Knowing nothing is better than knowing at all" comes from the song.  The music, lyrics, contain so much passion.
